![]() ![]() Let's talk about money - the price of PopClip In this case, there is a black list in the PopClip settings in which these apps can be listed. I'm thinking of my favorite text editor, where you only write new blog posts, but you might think of other apps as well. Now you might not want to have the tool active in some apps because there would interfere with the display of the menu. The installation is super-easy and done with two clicks. There are now over 180 extensions with which PopClip can be expanded. If you want to contribute an extension yourself, you can do so GitHub from PopClip look at. Of course, it doesn't make sense to install a lot of them, as the pop-up menu will burst at the seams at some point, but the display can cope with a few. There are currently over 180 extensions for PopClip. There are many other extensions, but I can't possibly include them all here as the list is quite large. Search for the highlighted text with Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo etc.Create a new mail with the text in the mail program.Activate Alfred with the highlighted text.Use the text to create an entry with Fantastical.Create a new note in Bear with the text.Make a new note with the highlighted text.Opens the translation service DeepL with the highlighted text (target language can be selected).Open Google Translate with the highlighted text.Display the selected text in large font on the monitor (helpful when you can't read things).Count the characters of the highlighted text. ![]() Count the words in the highlighted text.Send the highlighted text to TextSoap for cleaning.Replace spaces in text with underscores.Insert the clipboard and press ENTER after inserting (useful for terminal commands from tutorials etc.).Insert the clipboard as plain text (without formatting). The extensions include, for example, the following (personal) highlights: In this context, it is very practical that the list shows a tick instead of the download button if the corresponding extension has already been installed in PopClip. All you have to do is load the file and then open it with PopClip. For this reason, one can find one on the programmer's side quite a long list of "PopClip Extensions", which can be installed free of charge in the Mac tool. But PopClip can still be supplemented by expansions in functionality. The two functions mentioned above alone save you a lot of copy & paste orgies. Extremely flexible thanks to hundreds of extensions Update : Moved extensions list lo linked forum post.If you mark an e-mail address, you can start a new e-mail with PopClip without having to go through copying, opening the e-mail program, starting a new e-mail and pasting the e-mail address. Update : Post edited and fleshed out following the release of PopClip 2021.9. I will also put out documentation for creating your own JavaScript extensions in due course. I will keep this post the forum post updated as I go. It’s going to take me some time to port all the remaining PHP extensions to JavaScript. Having the scripting system built into the app also opens up new possibilities for what PopClip extensions can do. The new extensions are lightning fast, and hopefully now future proof. PopClip runs the JavaScript code directly, instead of calling out to an external executable. Instead, I have updated PopClip to support a new kind of extension, written in JavaScript. I don’t fancy maintaining a PHP runtime distribution. Keep them in PHP and ship a PHP runtime with PopClip.Too many hoops to jump through for non-technical users, for what is supposed to be a simple time-saving tool. Keep them in PHP and require users to install PHP themselves with homebrew or similar. This seems a very practial short term solution, but none is guaranteed to remain in macOS in future. Port these extensions to a different scripting language such as Python, Ruby, etc. This happens because macOS Monterey does not ship with the PHP scripting language runtime, which some extensions need. Install the updated extensions, listed here. Make sure you are running the latest version of PopClip (2021.10). Those of you testing the betas of macOS Monterey may have discovered some PopClip extensions missing, and the message Cannot Install Extension No such executable file: /usr/bin/php when trying to install them. ![]()
